Rotary Grant Provides Educational Tools and School Supplies for The Welcome Place in Nhlambeni
In January 2013, SOHO opened the Welcome Place in Nhalmbeni, Swaziland. This was the second ‘Welcome Place’ SOHO has opened, the first in Mhlosheni, Swaziland. The community of Nhlambeni recognizes the new Welcome Place as a Neighborhood Care Point (NCP) by country standards. The facility provides a free preschool, as well as a feeding program. Previously, education materials at the preschool were homemade resources provided by SOHO nurse and program coordinator Lorraine Hope.
Aware of the need for educational materials, the Northeast Rotary Club of Indianapolis awarded SOHO with a $3000 grant for books and educational tools at SOHO’s Welcome Place in Nhlambeni. Rotary President and SOHO supporter Terre McNutt presented the grant. She believes that investing in literacy and education can significantly impact developing communities. “I believe in helping those who cannot help themselves, especially these children,” she remarks.
Terre states that because of her work with the Rotary, she is able to give more and connect two organizations that are passionate about serving children. SOHO’s preschoolers are lively and enthusiastic about learning. Because of this generous contribution, the preschool at The Welcome Place in Nhlambeni has proper materials to teach its children.
